The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. The other sacraments, and indeed all Church ministries and works, are bound up with the Eucharist and are aimed toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself (CCC 1324).
The Eucharist is the sum and summary of our faith: Our way of thinking is attuned to the Eucharist, and the Eucharist in turn confirms our way of thinking (CCC 1327).
All Baptised Catholics who are of the age of reason (age 7+) are called by God to participate in the greatest of the Sacramental gifts: the Holy Eucharist. By this Holy Communion, we become one with God Himself as well as with one another.
For children, two consecutive years of Religious Education is required in our Diocese of Tucson. For example, a child who attends first grade and then second grade at the age of seven is invited to receive First Eucharist.
Students are prepared in their classes to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. An attendance record of 80% or greater is needed.
For adults, attendance of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the normal process, and the lessons go from Fall until the Easter Vigil, in which the candidate would receive both First Holy Eucharist and Confirmation.
